Elmarie Erasmus is a Director at Clarks Attorneys and has been with the firm since 2017. She was admitted as an attorney in 2016 after completing her BComm (Law) and LLB degrees at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, and her articles at Malcolm Lyons & Brivik Inc. in Cape Town. At that firm, she gained experience in personal injury litigation and labour law, but came to Clarks to practise her first love, family law.

At Clarks Attorneys, Elmarie has built a strong practice in family law, with a focus on complex financial matters and children’s issues, particularly international child abduction and relocation matters . She has played a pivotal role in several notable public interest cases, including litigation against the state in a transgender rights matter and the landmark KG v Minister of Home Affairs case, which reshaped the law on antenuptial contracts.

Hailing from Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo, Elmarie is widely respected for her combination of legal expertise, interpersonal skills and deep compassion. While she regularly handles high-value financial disputes, she is particularly passionate about matters affecting children and is dedicated to ensuring their best interests are protected.

Outside of her legal practice, Elmarie enjoys time with family and friends, reading widely, and exploring new places through travel.
